What is embodiment counselling
Embodiment counselling is a psychotherapy approach that places strong emphasis on the mind-body connection. It is based on the belief that our bodies hold important information about our thoughts, emotions and experiences and that by becoming more aware of, and connected to our bodies, we can gain greater insights into ourselves. Embodiment counselling promotes a deep connection between the body, mind and spirit.
Embodiment counselling involves a range of different techniques and practices that involve the somatic experience based around the four pillars of embodiment: awareness, breath, movement and sound. The primary goal of embodiment is to help you become more aware of your body’s sensations, release tensions, process trauma and promote holistic healing. An embodiment counselling session could include movement therapy, sensory awareness, body scan exercises, mindfulness and breathwork.
There are many benefits of embodiment practices such as:
Promoting holistic healing
Improving emotional regulation
Enhancing self-awareness
Trauma resolution
Reducing stress
Feeling better connected with and supported by your therapist
Being empowered by learning practical tools for self-care and emotional regulation
Embodiment is a practical approach which goes beyond the traditional psycho-analytical techniques used in traditional psychology. For that reason, it’s a useful addition to the broader suite of psychotherapy approaches.
